Family Day

Today was family day, but we didn't do too much.  Went to the mall, but didn't find much.  I must say the thrift store has spoiled me, and the mall prices today looked like a joke to me.  And NO we did not try to coordinate our looks of the day!

Trend Watch...Literally!

So we all know that Michael Kors is a well noted fashion designer with pieces from gowns to accessories.  And we also know how the traditional Gold Watch is making a comeback.  Men, it's time to leave the G-Shocks and Walmarts at home and get your grown man on.

This MK8077 is a classic piece that screams masculinity, maturity and confidence.

My husband has been eyeing this watch for some time now, and finally broke down and made his wrist smile.

Steal of the Day: Classic Black Pump

You can never have too many solid black shoes.  This is a very cute shoe and it's an even cuter price.         $15.99

Outfit of the Day: My Version of Casual Friday

So, with my profession, any day is a holiday when I don't have to dress like a boy.  So I take full advantage of Casual Friday.  It was actually like 50 degrees this morning, so I didn't look weird wearing a blazer today! I love blazers, I have bought about 10 within the last 3 weeks.

Most of my outfit of the day were thrift finds that I featured on the site earlier this week.  I rarely buy outfits, just pieces, and today I think I pulled off the look I was going for without being overdressed for work.

Trend Watch: Double Dosage of Denim

Wearing denim on denim use to be a major fashion no-no, but now days, it can be a show-stopper if styled correctly.

Tips For Doubling Up:

  • Use different shades of denim to break up your outfit. Try dark jeans with a light chambray top, or a denim top with black jeans.

  • Try it with accessories. A denim bag or headband with a pair of jeans is an easy way to rock this trend

  • Avoid looking costumey by shying away from anything western. If a costumey look isn’t what you’re after, skip pairing this look with cowboy boots, huge belt buckles, fringe, etc.

  • Pair it with something feminine. A pretty headband, blingy earrings, floral print, and girly shoes will break up the industrial look of double denim.

  • Try it out with these looks:

    Fashion Spotlight: Tracee Ellis Ross

My BFF in my head Ms. Tracee Ellis Ross aka Joan has made her mark in my eyes as a fashion icon.  Her style is very instrumental in pieces that I purchase.
Charming, classy, versatile and beautiful are just a few of the characteristics that define Tracee Ellis Ross and make her one of the hottest chameleons in the entertainment industry today. She is described as a “trend setter with signature style,” a woman “gracefully redefining the rules for success”.

Ross is best known as the star of the hit sitcom Girlfriends that ran for eight seasons on The CW network. It can still be seen in syndication throughout the US and the world. Ross' portrayal of Joan Clayton earned her eight NAACP Image Award nominations including one win in 2007 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, one BET Comedy Award win and two nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, a Women's Image Network (WIN) Award nomination for Best Comedy Series -- Actress and two PRISM Award nominations for Outstanding Performance in a Comedy series.

    The Thrifting Diet

So instead of going to grab a bite to eat for lunch, I just HAD to go to the thrift store.  I went to one that I don't frequent much, and was surprised to find out today everything was 50% off.  It was obvious that I was the last one to get the memo due to the limited selection by 12 noon, but I was able to snag some pieces that  I can do a lot with.

I have been looking for a plaid-ish shirt to wear for a while.  I will most likely pair this with a vest, jeans, and heels.

This H & M blazer called my name, and I had to rescue it from the rack.  The stitching and detail is beautiful and I will most likely wear it with khakis to work, or jeans on the weekend. A multi-functional piece!

Trust me, this Military Inspired jacket looks much better on, and I promise photos when I wear it.  The gold button are a cute detail and the military look is big this season.

    Trend Watch: Mo-Hemian

Mo-Hemian, the modern Bohemian look is a fun, casual look for the fall.  Nicole Ritchie has made the look more mainstream as she goes for flowy scarves and oversized cardigans.

    Fashion Spotlight: Kimmie Cakes!

How I love Kimmie Cakes, let me count the ways. Her style to me is iconic.  Although she has a team to do her makeup, hair, and etc. daily, I must give her credit for choosing a great stylist: Monica Rose

Check Kim out in all her glory:

Got Sneaks?!: The KING has turned up the HEAT

NBA superstar Lebron James latest sneaker dubbed the Nike Air Max Lebron 8 South Beach Edition ($160) has just been released, and what a beauty it is. These Florida inspired bright turquoise sneakers feature hot pink accents, and were definitely made to grab the attention of everyone in its presence. The Nike Air Max Lebron 8 sneakers were released this past weekend in select locations in South Beach and will be available to the rest of the country later this month.

    Trend Watch: The Satchel

With winter approaching, the go-to bag this season will be the satchel.  The size is perfect for all the unnecessary crap we ladies have to tote around on a daily basis.

I personally use my satchel as a purse/briefcase/diaperbag!  Check out the looks below from :

    Late Night Date Night

Date Night was fun.  It's not often we get a complete night to ourselves, so we tried to enjoy every minute of it.

I did get to wear a blazer after all! I recently got this beauty on one of my daily Thrifts.  The various colors in the jacket caught my eye, and my basket immediately caught the jacket!

Jacket: Thrifted, Shirt: Walmart, Jeans: Unknown, Shoes: F21, Purse: Thrifted

Kourtney has been into vest lately and this denim DIY vest is a big trend in menswear this Fall.

Hat: The Hundreds, Vest: Levi's, Shirt: Gap, Jeans: Levi's, Boots: Nike Goadome

    Trend Watch: Blazers

Tonight is date night with the hubby, and while it's not hot and not cool here in Baton Rouge, I'm in the mood for a Blazer tonight.

All 3 Kardashian sister's are infamous for wearing a blazer for any and every occasion.

Last year around this time I wore this bright green blazer to a birthday dinner.  It was a fun look, although looking back, I feel I could have done without the headband.

Here's some online finds that caught my eye:     $28.50     $59.00     $27.80

Check back for the final date night fit!

The Haul Monitor: Thrifting at it's best

I must admit that I Thrift every single day.  I have been having great luck actually.  I was going to post everything I got last week, but it was too much, so I just posted my finds from today.  I look for pieces that I can wear to work, church or whenever.  I also look for pieces that can be worn with different things and that can be worn year round.

    Here's what i found today:

This shirt does not photograph well, but it is beautiful.  I will either wear it with a grey pencil skirt or a pair of black pants.  I will take a picture and post it when I wear it.

I love a button down, and I found this cute little Ralph Lauren for only $2! I will most likely wear it with some jeans or khakis.

I fell in love with this khaki skirt mostly because it came with a belt.  It is a good piece that can be worn with many many things.

This grey Liz Claiborne skirt is also a must have.  It didn't come with a belt, but did come with belt loops.  I can do a lot with the skirt and was happy for this find!

OMG! I was so happy to find these Gap black pants.  The length was perfect and I'm more than sure I will get tons of good outfits with these pants.

I absolutely love these jean trousers.  The length is great and I am a sucker for dark denim.
